2020 DEAD HORSE 3L - THE 22ND VINTAGE OF DEAD HORSE

Winemaking Notes - Washington’s finest cabernet sauvignon sites provide the fruit for the 2020 Dead Horse. The foundation of the blend is our custom planting at Quintessence vineyard, which produces exceptional fruit of incredible purity, intensity, and depth. Fruit
from Obelisco, Discovery and Olsen vineyards complete the wine. While the composition is primarily cabernet sauvignon, small amounts of merlot and cabernet franc were used to add depth and complexity to the finished wine. The weather in 2020 was on the warm side, with elevated temperatures during July through early September. This weather pattern accelerated ripening and harvest began more than a week ahead of schedule. The wine was fermented in a combination of 1.5, 2 and 5 ton open top fermenters for 7-10 days and was
then lightly pressed to barrel, where it finished primary and malolactic fermentation and was aged for 21 months in 65% new French oak.

Tasting Notes - The 2020 Dead Horse is a large, balanced cabernet filled with baking spice and boysenberry aromas that carry through to the palate where they are joined by flavors of anise and eucalyptus. The tannins are balanced by a silky mouthfeel and the lingering finish is filled with black pepper and herbs.
