Tasting Notes
91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby colored, the 2021 Dead Horse emits rich, dense aromas of black cherry, blackberry, wet stone, tobacco, and baking spice. The flavors are intense and dramatic, with dark fruits infused with licorice, dark cocoa, and graphite. The fine-grained tannins and lifted acidity give amazing structure for cellaring and a satisfying texture on the finish.

Winemaker Notes
Washington’s finest cabernet sauvignon sites provide the fruit for the 2021 Dead Horse. The foundation of the blend is our custom planting at Quintessence vineyard, which produces exceptional fruit of incredible purity, intensity, and depth. Fruit from Ciel du Cheval and Henry Earl vineyards complete the wine. While the composition is primarily cabernet sauvignon, small amounts of merlot, cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot were used to add depth and complexity to the finished wine. Bud break and bloom in 2021 were earlier than normal. The weather was hot throughout much of the growing season. Like 2020,
the 2021 vintage produced exceptionally low yields. Berries were remarkably small, and clusters were
extremely light. This led to wines with amazing depth and intensity. The wine was fermented in a combination of 1.5, 2 and 5-ton open top fermenters for 7-10 days and is then lightly pressed to barrel, where it finished primary and malolactic fermentation and was aged for 21 months in 54% new French oak.
