Winemaker Notes
Some of Washington State’s finest vineyards have provided fruit for the 2022 Dissident. Cabernet sauvignon and merlot from Quintessence and Phinny Hill vineyards form the foundation of this blend. The Dissident is a wine that we create to complement the Dead Horse and Long Haul. People often think that the Dissident is made up of wines that don’t make the cut in the final blends of Dead Horse and Long Haul. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The same vineyards, barrels and attention to detail go into the Dissident as go into every wine in the Mark Ryan program. While Dead Horse and Long Haul are crafted to be supremely age-worthy, the Dissident offers a more approachable wine younger in its development. The wine was fermented in 1.5, 2 and 5 ton open top fermenters for 7-10 days. The wine was lightly pressed to barrel where it finished primary & secondary fermentation and was aged for 18 months in 79% new French oak. The wine was racked three times and gently fined prior to bottling.
