About the wines

Washington’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon sites provide the fruit for the 2020 Dead Horse. The foundation of the blend is our custom planting at Quintessence vineyard, which produces exceptional fruit of incredible purity, intensity, and depth. While the composition is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc were used to add depth and complexity to the finished wine. A large, balanced Cabernet filled with baking spice and boysenberry aromas that carry through to the palate where they are joined by flavors of anise and eucalyptus. The tannins are balanced by a silky mouthfeel and the lingering finish is filled with black pepper and herbs.

The 2020 Long Haul is composed primarily of Merlot from Ciel du Cheval and Klipsun vineyards on Red Mountain combined with Merlot from Red Willow Vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Ciel du Cheval and Klipsun are two of the oldest vineyards on Red Mountain. These older vines produce small clusters with intensely flavored berries. The vines at Red Willow have an average age of 25 years and produce Merlot with a savory aromatic profile, complex depth and power on the palate. The wine opens with licorice and fresh herbs highlighted by black plum fruits. The strong secondary notes on the nose continue into the palate, with red and blue fruit flavors backed by notes of cedar and black pepper.

Some of Washington State’s finest vineyards have provided fruit for the 2020 The Dissident. Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Quinn and Quintessence vineyards and Merlot from Red Willow and Olsen and form the foundation of this blend. The Dissident is a wine to complement Dead Horse and Long Haul - the same vineyards, barrels, and attention to detail go into crafting The Dissident. While Dead Horse and Long Haul are crafted to be supremely age-worthy, The Dissident is built to offer
a more approachable wine younger in its development.
